When Seven became Seven: Celebrating 25 Years of "Human Error"

Image
A woman sits in front of a piano and plays Chopin. Her blonde locks and delicate hands reveal her to be none other than Seven of Nine. In this character-specific episode, the audience is drawn in by the human features of Seven fully displayed as she disregards her Borg implants while on the holodeck. We see Seven wear several unique outfits of choice, along with different hairstyles, showcasing her experiments in fashion, makeup and styling. Without The Doctor's help, Seven takes it upon herself to spend hours in the holodeck forming a program specifically designed by her and for her. Written by Brannon Braga, André Bormanis and Kenneth Biller, and directed by Allan Kroeker this season 7 episode 18 stars Jeri Ryan as our beloved Seven of Nine. Airing on March 7, 2001, we see Seven of Nine donning a stunning red dress and her hair styled like an Old Hollywood starlet becoming fully human with nothing to lose, but a plethora to gain. Let us take a look at the tender humanist beauty o...

A Royal Love: Louis and Antoinette

Image
In honor of the last day in February, here is a short story of the love story between King Louis and Queen Marie Antoinette of France. Although this pair started off as two foreigners to each other, their bond would hold them together in the most grievous hour. Let us take a moment and learn of this royal love.              King Louis XVI by Joesph Duplessis and Queen Marie Antoinette by Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun. On May 16, 1770, Dauphin Louis of France married  Archduchess Maria Antonia Josepha Joanna (Marie Antoinette) in the Royal Chapel of Versailles. On their wedding night, the adolescents went to bed together, yet their marriage was not consummated. It is reported that either the Louis and Antoinette did not know what to do, or decided to remain platonic spouses as they grew to personally know each other. For the next years, the pair learned their likes and dislikes as they were young adults in a foreign relationship. In 1774, Lou...

Chakotay and Seven of Nine: An Unbreakable Link

Image
In commemoration with  Valentine's Day, I decided to write an article on my favorite "Star Trek" pairing: Chakotay and Seven of Nine. Through social media, I have seen this fictional couple bear the brunt of despise, hatred and retaliation. On the other hand, I have always seen a unique  relationship of two individuals in the future. From the moment they appeared on screen together I thought they had instant chemistry. The two characters showed that love is unconditional and just because a first meeting is not pleasant, love can bloom in the most unbeknownst manner. I hope this following article can shed light on their relationship and why they matter.  With patience and time, a spiritual person like Chakotay and a logical scientist like Seven formed a tender bond and left an impact as a tasteful and wholesome romance. Chakotay was able to understand a facet of Seven that no other crewman could. In return, she honored and respected him. Starting from season 4 through seas...

A Story of Love: St. Valentine

Image
In 226 A.D, Valentinus (Valentine) was born in Terni, Italy. As a young adult, Valentine made the decision to become a Christian Priest. At the time of his ordination, the Roman Emperor Claudius Gothicus II took pleasure in punishing, torturing, persecute and executing Christian men women and children. In response, Valentine continued to spread the word of Christianity and baptized hundreds of Roman citizens into the Christian (Catholic) Faith.    Valentine Within time, Valentine was arrested by Roman officials and placed on house arrest. In regard to his case, a judge called Asterius was appointed to interrogate Valentine on his Christian faith. During his questioning, Valentine defended the faith he held and vowed to Jesus Christ as the Son of God. To challenge his faith,  Asterius brought  forth his blind daughter, asking Valentine to restore her sight. The judge said that if Valentine restored his daughter’s vision, he would convert Christianity and w...

Trekking the Love: My Top Ten Star Trek Romances

Image
Throughout 50+ years, the "Star Trek" franchise has granted its audience a vast array of relationships and love in space. From passionate courtships to ceremonial weddings, many couples brought out the best in a series. In celebration of the "love month", here is a list of my favorite Star Trek pairings: #1: Commander Chakotay and Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager) Reason? From the start, the two characters connected in a unique, yet touching way. With one electrical surge, Chakotay was able to see Seven's past as he disconnected her from the Borg Collective. As the series went on, the softening of both characters towards eachother was sweet, alongside their shared knowledge of childhood aspirations and love for exploring the unknown. The subtle glances, smirks and eventual romance showed that a spiritual person as Chakotay and a logical scientist as Seven can be a perfect fit. Notable episodes: "Scorpion: Part II", "One Small Step...
