60 Years of Star Trek at Star Trek Las Vegas

HAPPY STAR TREK DAY! I recently got back after a fulfilling and wonderful trip to Las Vegas whereupon we Trekkies celebrated 60 years of an incredible franchise rooted in an optimistic future looking to the stars. For myself I ventured to the city of Las Vegas, Nevada and celebrated my favorite franchise at the Rio Convention Center spending three days among fellow fans, actors and writers alike. During my three days I had a plethora of enjoyment and dressed in two cosplays per day, including a hand-sewn cosplay I made specifically for this convention. My three days at STLV reaffirmed why I am a Trekkie and why I revere the things that I do. From meeting the most gracious stars to walking the vendors room to getting my dream photo ops that was announced a week before I landed, this convention was something I will forever cherish in my heart. So come aboard and let me stir the course taking you to on a Trek to Vegas... Standing in the Rio Convention Rotunda  On Stardate August 6, I ...

Trekking the Love: My Top Ten Star Trek Romances

Image
Throughout 50+ years, the "Star Trek" franchise has granted its audience a vast array of relationships and love in space. From passionate courtships to ceremonial weddings, many couples brought out the best in a series. In celebration of the "love month", here is a list of my favorite Star Trek pairings: #1: Commander Chakotay and Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager) Reason? From the start, the two characters connected in a unique, yet touching way. With one electrical surge, Chakotay was able to see Seven's past as he disconnected her from the Borg Collective. As the series went on, the softening of both characters towards eachother was sweet, alongside their shared knowledge of childhood aspirations and love for exploring the unknown. The subtle glances, smirks and eventual romance showed that a spiritual person as Chakotay and a logical scientist as Seven can be a perfect fit. Notable episodes: "Scorpion: Part II", "One Small Step...

Happy Anniversary Deep Space Nine: A look back at "Emissary"

On this day in 1993, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" premiered. In the opening episode "Emissary", this series took the audience on a journey into a new frontier within the "Star Trek" franchise. Instead of a starship, this show would take place on a space station called "Deep Space Nine", formally known as "Terok Nor". With a widowed Commander named Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), his son Jake (Cirroc Lofton) and an excellent cast of characters, DS9 would become a trailblazing series. By incorporating exploration, faith, love science and war, DS9 set the tone for a change of pace within Star Trek, yet always held to the vision of Gene Roddenberry. The role-model in Sisko as a single father running a space station was a fine example of dedication and love. Avery Brooks would play his character with distinction and grace, which gave him a command presence in each scene and a heart for his crew.                        ...
