Celebrating 30 Years of Star Trek: Voyager AT STLV

Image
There are a few things that make life worthwhile but having the lady who played your favorite character wrap her arms around you while you are surrounded by the cast of your favorite series will certainly do that. What a wonderful memory I will cherish and be able to tell my children one day. Happy 30th Anniversary, my beloved Voyager....        Back: Garrett Wang (Harry Kim), Robert Duncan McNeil (Tom Paris), Tim Russ (Tuvok),               Robert Beltran (Chakotay), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Ethan Phillips (Neelix)      Front: Myself with Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), Kate Mulgrew (Kathryn Janeway) and             Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres) Who would think back in 2018 when this little lady would become enthralled with Seven of Nine, watching Voyager each night during her senior year in high school that one day she would attend a convention that each cast member of the show ...

The Case for Space

Image
On  April 19, 2021, the NASA robotic helicopter "Ingenuity" completed a successful flight on the surface of Mars. This historical event catapulted human spaceflight and engineering as an Earth produced vehicle took flight on its own while located on a different planet. Never before had mankind achieved such a feat beyond Earth.  " Ingenuity " hovers above the surface of Mars in this historic image. (NASA) Ever since I was a small child, I have always looked to the stars. My earliest memories of learning about space were around the age of four when I would look outside and see the planets Mars and Venus beside the Moon. As I grew older, I would collect books on the wonders of space and God’s incredible creation of nebulae, the solar system and planets beyond our galaxy. Being homeschooled, I was fortunate to accumulate fascinating picture-filled books which I still have to this day. Throughout my later homeschooled years,...

Chakotay and Seven of Nine: An Unbreakable Link

Image
In commemoration with  Valentine's Day, I decided to write an article on my favorite "Star Trek" pairing: Chakotay and Seven of Nine. Through social media, I have seen this fictional couple bear the brunt of despise, hatred and retaliation. On the other hand, I have always seen a unique  relationship of two individuals in the future. From the moment they appeared on screen together I thought they had instant chemistry. The two characters showed that love is unconditional and just because a first meeting is not pleasant, love can bloom in the most unbeknownst manner. I hope this following article can shed light on their relationship and why they matter.  With patience and time, a spiritual person like Chakotay and a logical scientist like Seven formed a tender bond and left an impact as a tasteful and wholesome romance. Chakotay was able to understand a facet of Seven that no other crewman could. In return, she honored and respected him. Starting from season 4 through seas...

Trekking the Love: My Top Ten Star Trek Romances

Image
Throughout 50+ years, the "Star Trek" franchise has granted its audience a vast array of relationships and love in space. From passionate courtships to ceremonial weddings, many couples brought out the best in a series. In celebration of the "love month", here is a list of my favorite Star Trek pairings: #1: Commander Chakotay and Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager) Reason? From the start, the two characters connected in a unique, yet touching way. With one electrical surge, Chakotay was able to see Seven's past as he disconnected her from the Borg Collective. As the series went on, the softening of both characters towards eachother was sweet, alongside their shared knowledge of childhood aspirations and love for exploring the unknown. The subtle glances, smirks and eventual romance showed that a spiritual person as Chakotay and a logical scientist as Seven can be a perfect fit. Notable episodes: "Scorpion: Part II", "One Small Step...

My Voyage With Voyager

Image
Watching Star Trek: Voyager has changed my life. I grew up in a household with a single, disabled mother who could not work. Throughout nineteen formative years, my mother dedicated herself to raising and educating me. I did not have many role models growing up, save for her and some influential figures in my favorite subject in school, which was history. In addition to this, I have danced classical ballet since the age of four.  My first contact with Voyager came at the age of sixteen in Bozeman, Montana when I stayed with a ballet host-family during the summer. I had never cared to watch Star Trek in the past and had no "Trekkies" in my family. However, as I was settling in for the two weeks I was staying, they asked if I wanted to join them in watching an episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation".  After I came home, I researched the franchise and also learned about Voyager and DS9. Less than two years later, I returned to the family for another summer intensiv...
